Stations of the Heart begins with Jessica's traumatic childhood. She is abused by her father, but is too young to understand. Her mother, caught up in her own problems, is no help at all. The nightmares begin that will last thirty-eight years. One day young Jessica finds an uncompleted photo album with snapshots of her descendants in it, and she takes up photography in order to continue the family tree.
