¡Quiero! Educación de la Voluntad

Sinopsis del Libro

Muchos educadores (padres y maestros) reducen la educación a la sola formación de hábitos intelectuales. Olvidan que la educación es parte de la formación ética o moral del sujeto y que, por tanto, se puede aplicar a ella lo que dice Santo Tomás sobre la ética: «El fin de esta ciencia no es el solo conocimiento, al cual pueden llegar tal vez también los seguidores de las pasiones. Por el contrario, el fin de esta ciencia es el acto humano, como el de todas las ciencias prácticas [por tanto también a la educación]. Ahora bien, a los actos virtuosos no llegan los que siguen sus pasiones...». La educación de la voluntad no es algo mecánico ni tiene fórmulas mágicas. No hay medicamentos para este trabajo que es principalmente espiritual. Toda solución debe venir de adentro. Se ejercita y crece a través de la proposición de motivos y del ejercicio de actos concretos. Son muchas las personas que necesitan hacer un serio trabajo en la voluntad. Entre los más urgidos, están los abúlicos, los perezosos, los dominados por algún vicio es especial los relacionados con la lujuria (que suele consumir la voluntad como un parásito). El defecto de la voluntad puede llegar a ser tan grave que paralice totalmente la voluntad. Educarla consiste en crear en ella los hábitos por los cuales se mueva a sí misma hacia el bien espiritual y mueva las demás potencias (especialmente el plano de la afectividad) hacia sus fines propios en armonía con el bien integral del hombre y con el fin último del mismo. La voluntad debe ser educada en sus dos funciones: en el amor al bien verdadero y en el gobierno sobre la afectividad.
