Entre el 30 de marzo y el 4 de abril de 1987 se celebró en Cáceres el I Congreso Internacional de Historia de la Lengua Española, primer objetivo de la entonces reciente Asociación de Historia de la Lengua Española. Las Actas, publicadas un año después, son el testimonio de la gran ilusión y pujanza con que nació la Asociación.
