España en su historia. Cristianos, moros y judíos se terminó de escribir en Estados Unidos en 1946 y se publicó, por primera vez, en Argentina en 1948. Prohibido en España por la dictadura del general Franco, el autor no se decidió entonces a reeditarlo tal cual y refundirlo por completo en un libro nuevo y distinto que tituló La realidad histórica de España. Sin embargo, España en su historia, la pieza original, recuperada por Crítica en 1983, es la obra maestra de Américo Castro y la versión más afortunada y sugestiva de su formidable intuición histórica.
