Este libro recoge la historia de Vasconia, que engloba esencialmente los territorios de la Comunidad Autónoma del País Vasco, la Comunidad Foral de Navarra y el País Vasco francés (Labourd, Baja Navarra y País de Soule). Estructurado en tres apartados - el político-institucional; el demográfico y social; y el referido a la cultura y la vida cotidiana.

Este libro presenta, a partir de un exhaustivo rastreo documental, un análisis detallado del conocimiento en enseñanza de la historia y las ciencias sociales producido en contexto nacional. Las autoras, mediante la indagación por propuestas y tensiones en escenarios como la Universidad Pedagógica Nacional, demuestran que la historia sigue siendo un tema y un enfoque de trabajo escolar privilegiados. Asimismo, plantean una mirada a enfoques alternativos como la historia oral, la historia desde abajo, la memoria, la educación popular y la pedagogía crítica.
