Graphic designer López Castro presents a collection of photographs of street paintings of the Virgin of Guadalupe, a methodological documentation project of a distinctive Mexican folkart he started in 2002 and that culminated in the present book that includes the prologue of anthropologist Roger Bartra. Of the book the author states -"The Guadalupana is the virgin of the poor. That is why in this book I try to make it evident how each Mexican paints her as best as they can, as they need her or with the only purpose of having her present during their daily street walking."

En este volumen se han reunido, junto con muchas fotografías de la colección del Museo del Estanquillo. Páginas que dedicó a esas imágenes fugaces pero inolvidables en libros, revistas, prólogos, periódicos, catálogos. Estas páginas son espejos del país y de nosotros, imágenes de nuestros recuerdos, Maravillas que son, sombras que fueron, captadas por esa especie de fotógrafo de México que fue Carlos Monsiváis durante cinco décadas.

Este proyecto surge ante la curiosidad de saber por qué la gente se tatúa. El ser humano se viene tatuando desde tiempos ancestrales, pero desde principios de los 90 se hizo mucho más patente y la tendencia no ha hecho más que aumentar. Hoy en día estamos acostumbrados a ver tatuajes de todo tipo, en todo lugar, y en cualquier tipo de persona, pero sin embargo no sabemos la mayoría de las veces qué motivo ha llevado a una persona a tatuarse. Así que llegados a este punto me propuse por lo menos intentar averiguar por qué mis amigos y conocidos llevan tatuajes y documentarlo de alguna ...
