La autora refleja cómo sus protagonistas sobrevivieron a la enfermedad, las vejaciones y al hambre gracias a su valentía, pero también, gracias al motor que en aquel momento movía su corazón, el amor. Porque, pese a los trabajos forzados, los abusos y palizas, o la inanición, su mayor lucha consistía en conseguir salir del campo del exterminio para reencontrarse con su amado/a y comenzar una nueva vida. No tenían otra cosa en la cabeza: sobrevivir para seguir amando. Para estos supervivientes, el amor se convirtió en su mayor impulso en aquellos años de reclusión.
