Este libro recoge los himnos de san Efrén de Nísibis ( 373) dedicados a la Navidad y la Epifanía, que aparecen por primera vez traducidos al castellano en esta obra. Se trata de un total de 28 himnos de Navidad y 13 de Epifanía, compuestos por san Efrén, maestro de la Escuela teológica de Nísibis y a la vez diácono, a quien la tradición le otorgó el título de «cítara del Espíritu Santo». El libro se completa con una breve descripción biográfica de san Efrén, un comentario a los himnos y los géneros literarios de sus obras y una bibliografía complementaria.
