Sinopsis del Libro

Las Sociedades Economicas de Amigos del Pais nacen a finales del siglo XVIII como instituciones ilustradas y reformistas para el fomento de la instruccion y la economia - la agricultura y otros "oficios utiles" - y sentar y extender las bases en la necesaria construccion de una Espana moderna y desarrollada.Entre el centenar de Sociedades Economicas, a partir del siglo XIX, se encuentra la Sociedad Economica de Amigos del Pais de Liebana - en Cantabria - y sobre su fundacion, proyectos y realizaciones se ocupa este trabajo. En este periodo intenso y controvertido, entre la accion y la inaccion, el prestigio y el desprestigio, la Sociedad Economica de Amigos del Pais de Liebana muestra que en gran medida fue exclusivamente un mero instrumento economico y politico al servicio de intereses personales.
